JDS Uniphase Appoints New Operations Executive

New Hire Reflects Company Focus on Operational Excellence


SAN JOSE, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Mar 15, 2004 -- JDS Uniphase (NasdaqNM:JDSU - News) and (Toronto:JDU.TO - News) today announced that it has appointed Debora Shoquist as senior vice president of operations. In this newly created position, Shoquist will spearhead the Company's efforts to lead the industry to a new level of manufacturing efficiency, operational excellence, and customer-driven execution.



Shoquist will report to Kevin Kennedy, chief executive officer (CEO) of JDS Uniphase, and will be responsible for operations for all of JDS Uniphase optical communications products, which includes over 2400 employees and operations for over 200 product lines in North America, Asia, and Europe.

Shoquist has over 15 years of executive experience in general management, manufacturing, and operations including plant management, engineering, information services, finance, and human resources. Before joining JDS Uniphase, Shoquist was responsible for Coherent Electro-Optics Business Units, including 8 manufacturing sites worldwide. From 1991 to 2001 Shoquist ran Quantum Corporation's global operations among her other roles with the firm. Prior to that, Shoquist gained process engineering, production, and manufacturing expertise at Hewlett Packard from 1981 to1991.

She holds both a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University and a B.S. in Biology from Santa Clara University.

Shoquist, who joins JDS Uniphase March 15, will be an executive officer of the Company and will be based at its corporate headquarters in San Jose, California.
