I've observed traders use chart patterns successfully. I'm sure some of it's luck but theory behind lots of it seems valid and consistent. I'm not sure what I wrote in my earlier note, just some rambling on my first time back to iHub in a few months. Traditional indicators lag. I like stuff that measures movement. There's a bunch of valid ways to do that without adding lag, or much lag.

Favorite strategy right now is swinglines based on a book by William Dunnigan with a long title but it's commonly referred to as the One Way Formula and you'll find those words in the title. It's actually 2 small books written in 1956 and 7 that were combined recently and republished. Quite comprehensive rules for entry and exit. Doesn't leave anything out but naturally doesn't work right out of the book so there begins the quest for how to use something with known value as a measuring technique but with mistakes in the trend component of the system
