Another Ted/Digeplayer article in Inflight-Online

A shortened version of what we saw before, but the more publications it's in, the more aware people become, imo.

Ted trial for APS handheld IFE
March 12, 2004 - TED, the United Airlines low-fare carrier that entered service on February 12, has begun testing the APS digEplayer handheld IFE system (“Inflight Online” February 12).
The airline is gauging customer reaction with a view to renting the device to its passengers. Ted already offers TedeVision, pre-loaded programming delivered on overhead monitors, but is looking for a way to compete more effectively with the 24 LiveTV channels available aboard the aircraft of fellow low-cost carriers Frontier and JetBlue. A handheld solution would be much less costly for than installing and offering live TV, according to Ted VP Sean Donohue.

The carrier started offering digEplayers two weeks ago on flights between Denver and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Passengers “liked the content and liked being in control,” says Donohue. Feedback on the $10 price “was rather neutral,” so Ted may test a lower price in the next few weeks to see if demand increases.

The first carrier to put digiEplayer into regular service was Seattle-based Alaska Airlines, which has been offering the device for $10 per transcontinental flight since November and committed to a 6,000-unit buy last month.

With a 7in screen, 6hr battery and 20Gb hard drive, digEplayer can hold up to 30 full-length films.
