You can look up the owner of a domain name at www.r4l.com
I just checked with www.r4l.com and noticed that Thresher renewed their domain name on 01/04/2009.
I own a bunch of domains myself. The renewal reminder emails are always sent to the email address that you give when you buy the domain name. In an effort to cut down on the amount of spam I receive I change my email address regularly. In doing so I sometimes inadvertently change the one that's part of the domain name profile and in turn I never receive the renewal reminder emails.
Always let the results of your research and the numbers tell you what to do!
