Yet Intel remains a top semiconductor pick for 2008, and should deliver solid fourth-quarter results and first-quarter 2008 guidance about Wall Street's expectations, Covello said.

"We believe that the recent sell-off in Intel's stock on near-term demand concerns is overdone and would be aggressively accumulating shares at current levels," Covello said in a client note.

Shares should grow 35 percent over the next 12 months at the expense of rival AMD Corp. and margins should hit 60 percent going into 2009, he said."
