Thanks. Looks like a great product. And they have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

I bought 2 GB of DDR2-800 (PC6400) sticks.

The Vostro had 2x512 MB in it at 667 Mhz (PC5300) and I could have bought 2x512 MB but I decided to just go with 2x1GB in case
I someday go with 4 GB of RAM on this system and to get a small
bump in speed. Out of curiousity, I popped the 800 Mhz in the
E512 (running 533 Mhz memory) to see if there's a noticeable difference. My feeling is that if there is a different, it's very small. Perhaps the memory speed difference has more of an impact on Intel systems because of the FSB. At any rate, I'm going to put the 800 Mhz memory in the Vostro and kill the page file. That should speed things up and I will then leave them there. I would need the 2 GB of RAM in that machine to do any development (playing around with SSSE3).

At any rate, the first work would be to get builds working with VS2008 and then try the SSSE3 stuff. I could build with SSSE3 code and then move it over to the Core 2 machines for instrumentation and testing but this would be a real pain in the neck to do.
