On December 18, 2007, the University of Maryland granted Link Plus Corporation an exclusive worldwide license to its Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) technology for the specific binding and separation of viruses. Scientist at the university have already been successful in detecting viruses using MIPs, therefore, future research will concentrate on detecting dangerous pathogenic viruses such as smallpox, ebola, etc., and will be extended to include pathogenic bacteria such as anthrax, plague, botulinum, MRSA, etc.

This license, coupled with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory exclusive worldwide licenses for MIPs for detecting explosives, chemical agents, biological agents, toxins, poisons, and pesticides, positions Link Plus to be a leading company for the application of MIPs technology to threats to homeland security.

The future commercial applications for products based on MIPs technology for the detection of pathogens are considerable outside of Homeland Security. It includes the detection of MRSA and VRSA bacteria which are causing considerable consternation in hospitals around the world, and filters that can remove AIDS and Hepatitis viruses from the blood supply.
