Gay Games goes for gold Record numbers register to compete
A record number of athletes have registered for the Sydney 2002 Gay Games VI, organisers have revealed, taking the toll past the half-way mark.
A total of 7,193 men and women from around the world have registered to participate in the games, which see queers from around the world participate in a range of sporting and cultural events.
"We are delighted that we are tracking so well," said Sydney 2002 CEO Geoffrey Williams, "but people must remember we have a limited number of participatory positions and it really is a case of first come, first served."
For events that have already reached maximum figures, such as swimming, waiting lists are now in place.
The sports and cultural festival will take place in Sydney from 25 October to 9 November. There are 31 sports scheduled in 45 venues across the city, plus a range of participatory arts events that can take up to 1,600 registrants.
