Well, let me clarify what Calypso Wireless is saying. They are saying that companies are developing devices that roam between WAN's and LAN's. Any devices that roam "seamlessly" will have to be approved by Calypso by obtaining a license from them. Since Calypso has a patent on that technology they can enforce the patent. Most of the devices, if not all at this point, don't necessarily roam seamlessly...meaning that the device user has to manually switch the device over to use the LAN. Calypso sees that device manufacturers would probably want the technology to have the device switch automatically if they could get it. Up to this time, the technology didn't exist, however it sounds like another couple of companies may have developed something similar because they have announced that they are coming out with devices that can seamlessly roam. But if Calypso has this technology patented those companies that are coming out with these device will have to deal with Calypso Wireless in some way...meaning if they go ahead and try to sell those devices without licensing the technology from Calypso then Calypso can sue them for patent infringement, or they can work WITH Calypso and use their technology in their devices. I'm sure these big companies, if they have developed the technology already, are going to attempt to get around the patent. We'll have to wait and see.
