Nov 30, 2007 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Delcath Systems Inc (NASDAQ: DCTH), a developmental stage company testing its percutaneous perfusion technology for the delivery of therapeutic and chemotherapeutic agents, reported on 29 November
that the company has been granted Japanese Patent No. 511694 for the device Delcath System.

The company said the new patent describes modification to its original patented, double-balloon catheter, which allows for the uninterrupted flow of blood to the heart while the patient receives a treatment with the device. The recent Japanese patent reportedly secures the same intellectual property protection as Delcath's rights under US Patent 5,893,841 titled, Balloon Catheter with Occluded Segment Bypass, and similar patents previously secured in Canada and selected countries in Europe. The company said it has also extended its patent protection in Europe and Asia, expanding and updating its overseas portfolio to include 20 patents for the Delcath System, in addition to its eight US patents.
According to the company, the Delcath System is currently being tested in its Phase III and Phase II trials at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) with the drug melphalan. The company also has six pending foreign patent applications.
