it's possible they are short, yes. but it's more likely imo that a client had their etrade account hacked. in such a scenario, if this person owned any deep down shares ETRD may have restricted the online trading to verify the identity of all persons trading in the stock.

ameritrade has done this before where their users experience some sort of security breach, then all the stocks in those traders' portfolios get restricted until the situation is resolved.

there have been numerous articles out there on the web about this stuff. i think they should just come out and say "we are having trouble with our clients accounts getting hacked", but this becomes a PR nightmare for these online brokers, and right now ETRD has enough troubles.

fwiw, i'm sure this will be lifted in the near future. let's watch -- if we see them take it off the restriction just as the stock is making a huge move higher... then maybe they really are short. lol...

if so, that's just more fuel for the fire. gotta love it. :)
