If the ex-dividend date is Dec 2006, then any stock bought afterwards is basically worthless.

I have never seen a backdated ex-dividend date. The accepted procedure is to announce and give specific details to define the dividend and then set the ex-dividend date as some date in the near future. Although Corr announced an ex-dividend date in Dec 2006 he did not define the dividend at that time thus there was no way to determine its value.
