WreckTom On a shrimpboat your outriggers tie into the mast.bow.the ladder on the stern it creates stability, when at anchor a displacement hull tends to roll, with the stabilizers(flopper stoppers) deployed it keeps you from chasing your dinner plate up and down the galley table not to mention peace of mind. Rolling around day after day makes for unrest amongst the crew. The outriggers also can be used to lift heavy objects. I have used my riggers to tie my skiff off this keeps the stern open and also keeps the tow line out of the wheel. Its something to watch large seas pass by only to lift the boat up and down and not even a slight hint of a roll. Of course when running you lose a knot or two but well worth it.
