Judging from the replies I received yesterday, the concensus view of this board seems to be that Iraq under Saddam Hussein was more desirable than a free democratic Iraq. Despite international monitoring of the historic free elections in Iraq, the government is viewed as being puppets of the U.S.

Saddam Hussein was certainly willing to supply oil to the U.S., no need to invade Iraq. I can guarantee that had Bush cooperated with the benign dictator, Saddam, the same people bashing Bush now, would still be bashing Bush for backing a brutal, sadistic dictator. His motive for looking past Saddam's atrocities and support of terrorists, would be said to be 'oil'. Bush would be evil regardless of how he approached Iraq. But if only he was less homophobic and supported a woman's right to kill her fetus, universal health care, higher taxes on the wealthy, and a liveable minimum wage, then he could do no wrong.
