Keith, before you gloat:

Re: Talk about doing a complete 180 from last year, and before that. We told you so.

Your position was always that 64-bits was the top to bottom choice from mobile to servers, and that this would be AMD's main differentiation from Intel. Even back then, while I disagreed about the usefullness of 64-bits on the desktop, that Itanium probably wouldn't be the best choice for several years in servers.

Fast forward to today, and 64-bits is still irrelevant on the desktop, not to mention mobile. This will be the case until at least Longhorn, which will service >95% of desktop OS market share, supports it and the required drivers. Longhorn is what? 2006 now? And not everyone will transition at once, either. So I guess chipguy, Elmer, Semi, greg s, and well, basically ALL of the INTEL investors posting here, were right, too.

Servers and workstations are obviously a different story. I can see where 64-bits is the better choice for a lot of applications, based on the memory requirements. PAE seemed to suffice in some areas, though it was not elegant. I argued at the time that servers in the mid-range could use PAE until Itanium became better suited to take over, but I underestimated the problems associated with PAE and the market's desire to move to a different interim solution. I was wrong in that case, and I admit it. However, you are being a very poor sport by gloating over it, especially since your argument at the time had so little technical or business merit, and much more wishful thinking that AMD's direction was the right one.
