Ok, I see what you're saying. It looks like Intel has been toying with the idea of x86-64 since the late 90s, but I give AMD the credit for coming out with it first. If they did not, it's possible that Intel would have used it (the lack of it, that is) to urge more people towards the Itanium platform. But I agree, for the next several years at least, that a 64-bit x86 platform is the desirable choice for most businesses.
