Ramsey, I am sure many people will agree with you.The equipment has not changed since Sampras was #1. But they have tried to slow the game down some by using bigger balls at Wimbledon and many hard courts have become slower.In the day of Laver,Rosewall,Newcombe,etc... 3 of the Grand Slams were on grass.That was the reason that serve and volley was the syle of that era.Then the style changed when the US Open went to clay and the Australien Open went to hard courts.Then later the US Open went to hard courts also.I believe Conners was the only player to win the US Open on all 3 surfaces.I just brought this up to make the point that the syle of players depends mainly on what surface they spend most of their time playing on.I personally think that Federer is the new and improved Sampras (better backhand and better conditioning).But I agree that on paper Sampras is still the #1 of all time.
