What happens to the apps that don't run on IPF? I guess they just keep their legacy machines around until everything is running on IPF. I'll buy that. This is how I've seen companies transition from solaris to linux. I guess this is no different unless IT is looking for direct replacements for existing x86 workstations without adding more machines to the support list. IPF requires a phase out period where there are multiple machines to do all the jobs with the added benefit of more CPU cycles to use, where x86-64 could be a machine swap.
