My understanding is there is very little "trust" required. The 8 companies have said, "sure kid, dig around in my backyard. I'll even let you keep some of what ever you find". It's not really costing the 8 companies anything. There may be some "milestone" payments involved...but are they doing much more that covering costs (if that)?
