The Sao Tome EEZ is a completely different geologic formation that the Niger Delta complex. The Cameroon volcanic fault line, which runs from Cameroon, down through and indeed caused the formtion of Bioko Island (EG), Principe Island, Sao Tome Island and way out to Anabon Island (EG) separates the Niger Delta structures from those of off of EG, Gabon and Angola. The sea floor off of these countries gently slopes and layers are fairly smooth and unfractured as opposed the the Niger Delta which is highly fractured. Oil has been found in moderately deep water (Ceiba Field) in Cretaceous and Paleocene sands sourced from similar aged shales. Ceiba is near the edge of such a formation. Further out past the shelf edge the geology turns to stratigraphically trapped Tertiary sands. Despite the lack of great seismic, information from recent investigations in similar geologic areas (and contrary to previously held beliefs) suggest that oil flows into deeper areas through the sands until it gets trapped. Being that the sub-sea bed is known to be unfractutred, it is entirely possible that a great deal of oil has been drawn by gravity into deeper areas and trapped there. This is it possible that fields larger than Ceiba await in the EEZ sands. I am no expert, however.
