Transportation Components Inc., which operates as TransCom USA, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The filings, made today in a Houston federal bankruptcy court will enable the TransCom group to continue normal businesses operations using its own internally generated cash and the proceeds of debtor-in-possession financing being arranged with the company's bank group.

TransCom's Canadian subsidiary, Wes-T-Rans, and its Amparts operations in Mexico, are not included in the filings. But the Houston-based truck parts distributor said its domestic units are included in the filings.

The company said several factors including a prolonged industry slump, declining sales, acute liquidity problems and a heavy debt load prompted the need to reorganize.
