I have had the same thing happen on E-trade. You should realize that that can happen if you check the all or nothing box. If you checked that and the amount of shares that traded was less than yours it would happen. If more perhaps the seller had an all or nothing order and the only way to fill was to trade at the lower price than you wanted to buy at. Does that make sense? It's the only way I can make sense of it.
