You can add 5% to the US dollar savings account but it's not even close to maintaining it's value against the loonie. US$ has fallen almost 18% vs Canadian loonie since 1/07. That would be a nice riskless return for your portfolio if you had put your money in C$ in January plus whatever interest you would have gained. That would put you over 20% with no minimal risk.

Of course, I would guess that most of the move has already happened and with currencies, it could always go the other way. Still a stunning move in such a short time.
