The current charge for a Pap test- to the patients insurance- is about $15. Its about $25 if the lab does Cytyc's ThinPrep. Still doesn't make sense to me that CYCR will get an additional $10 for a better collector. It would require showing a great deal of benefit in total reduced costs or a huge increase in accuracy. If you think insurance companies will pay $10 to make things more comfortable for women, in absence of these other two benefits, you obviously haven't dealt with our healthcare system. My bet has always been on CYCR having a better test- not collection method. That's where the big bucks and benefit are. Larger population that can be tested and needs testing. Maybe that's where the $450M came from.
