OT: jdaasoc: Denying global warming.
Hello jd!
Being that I more resemble a 'neocon' than a 'liberal' (not sure what the opposite of a neocon is), I do not deny that there is global warming. There is all kinds of data out there that says it is warmer today than it was, say, 100 or 150 years ago, because we have actual recorded data from that long ago and it all says it has warmed up. Here in NC, we had the hottest Aug on recorded history.
However, two points:
1.) There is plenty of evidence that says the planet has gone through warming cycles and cooling cycle in the past. Past meaning on the order of 10 of thousands of year, so no human recorded weather data, but plenty of other circumstantial evidence to support this point.
2.) We can not assume that human existence has caused the planet to warm now, simply due to the fact that humans were not around during the last warming cycle to compare to (If they were, we know they were not burning fossil fuels). This was the point I made before. I also agree with AJ's point, that human existence may be causing an effect on this warming cycle, but it is hard to determine to what extent it is causing the warming.
I am not an environmental scientist, but I am an engineer, and I understand systems, and understand that weather on this planet is a system; a very huge, complex system. And to say that one factor (human existence) is the main cause of the systems warming, which has happened before and without man's help, seems a bit of a stretch to me.
Again, not trying to start a shouting match here. I just took a little offense to your statement of It must be Neo Con conspiracy to deny global warming , and wanted to respond to it. If anyone does deny there is global warming, then they are living in a denial, because there is data to support it is getting warmer.
