Knightscove Media Corp. announces the DVD release of new CBC hit "Little Mosque on the Praire" and concert DVD of hit band, Barenaked Ladies

12:29 EDT Wednesday, October 03, 2007

TORONTO, Oct. 3 /CNW/ - KNIGHTSCOVE MEDIA CORP (TSXV: KC / OTCQX: KCMDF) ("Knightscove" www.knightscove.com ) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Morningstar Entertainment, ("Morningstar" www.morningstarent.com ), has acquired exclusive Canadian DVD distribution rights to the first season of "Little Mosque on the Prairie" ("Little Mosque"), the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's ("CBC") groundbreaking series and "Talk to the Hand - Live in Michigan", the first ever live concert DVD from the contemporary band, the Barenaked Ladies.

Nearly four million prime time network viewers tuned into Little Mosque's debut week in January 2007, one of the largest openings for a Canadian series. The half hour comedy from the CBC was broadcast to stellar reviews and very strong ratings which continued through its inaugural television season with an average of 1.3 million viewers per episode. The series has become one of the CBC's hit comedies and boasts an outstanding cast including renowned actors Sheila McCarthy (Road To Avonlea, Being Julia, I've Heard the Mermaids Singing) and Carlo Rota (24, Queer As Folk, At the Hotel).

"Our Morningstar division has had a long standing and positive relationship with the CBC, working collaboratively to bring some of the finest in Canadian programming to the DVD market. We are delighted to bring Little Mosque to the retail market place on DVD", says Leif Bristow, Knightscove President and CEO.

The story revolves around a small Muslim community in the prairie town of Mercy and takes a gently funny look at the congregation of this rural mosque and their attempt to live in harmony with often skeptical, even down right suspicious, residents of their prairie town. The sit-com reveals that, although different, we are all surprisingly similar when it comes to family, love, the generation gap and our attempts to balance our secular and religious lives.

The series has been sold internationally to great acclaim and interest, being broadcast in both Gaza and Israel among other territories. Little Mosque's DVD release date is in mid November and Morningstar has already received strong indication of pre-orders from its buyers. "We're thrilled with the response to Little Mosque, not only in Canada where millions of Canadians have made it part of their lives, but increasingly throughout the world", says Kirstine Layfield, executive director, network programming, CBC television.

Over the past 18 years, the Barenaked Ladies ("the Ladies") have developed a fanatical fan base that's second to none in contemporary music today. They have sold over 10,000,000 albums world wide and reached Number 1 on Billboard with "One Week" and hit the Top 40 with "Old Apartment". The band has appeared on Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Regis & Kelly and Saturday Night Live. They are one of the top touring artists in North America and have a MySpace fan club consisting of 11,000 members. The Ladies' Podcasts are No. 1 on iTunes in the US and Canada in the music category.

"Talk to the Hand - Live in Michigan" is the Ladies first-ever live DVD and features performances of all the band's favourite songs along with hilarious audience engaging antics. Recorded in June 2007 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, songs include: One Week, Old Apartment, Sound of Your Voice, Bank Job, Too Little Too Late, Adrift, Get In Line, For You (acoustic), Be My Yoko Ono (acoustic), Wind It Up, Angry People, Pinch Me, Powder Blue, Brian Wilson, Easy, If I Had $1,000,000. The Ladies' penchant for the road combined with their ability to completely engage an audience make the Barenaked Ladies one of North America's best-loved live acts.

Morningstar's other recent releases include "King of Kensington" ("the King"), one of Canada's most popular and longest running sitcoms with 17 early episodes dating from 1975. The King stars Canadian Icon Al Waxman (Cagney & Lacey), Fiona Reid (my Big Fat Greek Wedding), Helen Winston (Sanford & Sons, Police Woman, Hill Street Blues) and guest stars, among others, Mike Meyers, John Candy, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty and Maury Chakin.

At the corporate level, Knightscove is conducting due diligence and negotiating a definitive agreement with Studio 4 Networks pursuant to its previously announced letter of intent. Studio4 is a Los-Angeles-based broadband and video-on-demand ("VOD") broadcaster operating three cable VOD channels (Studio4 Learning, Fitness and Kids) and two internet video sites, (www.studio4kids.tv and www.studio4fitness.tv). Studio 4 offers family friendly programming complementary to Knightscove's core product across multiple platforms including cable, satellite and broadband. Additionally, Studio 4 has entered into strategic partnerships with leading print publishers such as Parenting, Babytalk & Self magazines to create multiplatform ad packages in the magazine print pages and on their respective web properties.
