Now *this* doesn't surprise me in the least. Personally, I'd like to see a Pentium M derivative with desktop features.

I definitely agree with that. Intel should add 64 bit to it, and target servers / blades. And, multiple cores could still be very power efficient, and fit reasonable power envelope for servers.

Banias / Pentium M has the most going for it. It started with a good thing (old P6 core) and improved further (low power, power management, better clock speed scaling, small die size, very good IPC). It could also use on die memory controller.
