IMHO, the effect of Web 2.0 will be multiple times larger than Web 1.0 in terms of social engineering but its launch will not be/is not as dramatic either socially or in the market. It's the next logical step of evolution from Web 1.5 such as iHub, Yahoo, iVillage, etc. Little new engineering will be needed, just more opportunities for consumers. Web 1.0 starting with Tim Berners-Lee in the academic side to the introduction of Netscape on the commercial side was a paradigm-shifting event. It also made companies such as Cisco, Microsoft and Intel household names.
