That IB software just consumes a lot of (RAM) memory. (And more so as the session progresses) See what happens if you close all the other applications. Rebooting the computer every hour or so should help too. (But is a pain in the neck)

I'm assuming you have XP and at least 256Mb of RAM. I have 512Mb and every 4 or 5 hours it slows to a crawl. I close all applications and re-open them and that gives me another couple of hours.

If I'm not running IB my computer works just fine, even with many programs open.

I suspect this is just a side-effect of the Microsoft-Sun fight for Java. (IB uses the Sun Java machine)
