The military has their hands more than full as it is, and the IP(Iraq Police) are working very hard too. The Iraqi army and police continue to grow in numbers and ability. The Brits that are now working the boarder with Iran(nice link BTW) handed over their Southern Iraq responsibilities to the Iraqi(as they stand up we stand down) and moved their opperations.
Many of the Iraqi people are armed and provide their own security, as is the case in Anbar(West Iraq).
Spellbound, your>>I will respectfully disagree with you on the need for a profit oriented mercenary force.<<<<First, I doubt you will find many that would put their life on the line for free.
2nd, I think calling Blackwater "mercenary" is cynical, they have a tuff tuff job to do, and it's not to go out and randomly kill innocent civilions. If it was, we'd have seen it in the news way before this last Media free for all.

They are effective as hell and stand in the way of those that want free Iraq to fail(some loonie Libs here in the US). Blackmail and blowing it out of perportion seems much more plausable than the US politicians using and the DoD trusting "mercenaries".

Not being part of the US military might relax some rules of engagement, but by no means OKs cold blooded murder.
And as I said>> the actions of those few individuals being ACCUSED of cold blooded murder is impacting all of Blackwater by the trigger happy anti-war media and those that refuse to accept and face the ramifications of a failed Iraq....we can't *just* get out.

The true cold blooded killers are who Blackstone is paid to keep contactors safe from......get real, If the DoD thought getting rid of Blackwater would help, they would!
