Actual applications, or just workload kernels?

Most papers show benchmarks of rather primitive implementations, but to date I do not think even a single application has been enabled, such that the real world execution of that program receives a large benefit from today's GPU architecture.

Re: The turning point maybe the RV670 and G92 both of which are rumored to have double precision ability which will open up a lot more apps to them and make cpus really have to fight to keep apps.

This will depend on how high performance the DP mode is, and how much of the IEEE 754 standard it implements.
