Amphibious ship Fort McHenry deploys to Africa

Return date: Expected seven-month deployment

Highlights: The amphibious dock landing ship Fort McHenry deployed from Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base on Tuesday as part of the Navy's Global Fleet Station initiative. The ship will stay in the Gulf of Guinea region off Africa, visiting allied ships and ports. Plans call for the ship to visit Senegal, Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, and Sao Tome and Principe. The purpose of the global fleet initiative is to improve regional security by developing and training local navies.
