Oil and Inflation Bob Brinker has mistakenly made the same argument to the point of saying that rising oil prices hold down the inflation rate because they are effectively an increased tax. Brinker railed against Ben's higher interest rates to slow inflation caused by increases in oil prices.
At the time, the only thing that he said that I thought made any sense was that like food, it was one of the few items that people will not do without. I still can't agree with the premise.
