You have the 2002? What motor?

I traded the Ram 2002 with a 5.9 in it that I bot end of year 2002 for a great price. Now I know why. They didn't tell me and I didn't know the hemi was coming out to replace the 5.9 for 2003. That 5.9 is a TOTAL pig when it come to gas IMO. I know I had a big truck with full 8 foot bed and full four doors with 4 wheel drive so I knew the gas mileage was going to be a little tough but that thing was nuts. Damn good thing I had the 35gal. tank or I doubt I would be able to pass a gas station. Having said all that...the truck otherwise was great but then that hemi came out and driving 21 feet around was getting old in a crowded parking lot. So...

I went down on a Sunday (thought the damn place would be closed and I would not be bothered)and found a few I liked on the lot and out walks the salesman. First thing he shows me is the one with leather seats, power driver seat, heated seats and mirrors ,power mirrors, full four doors, new 5 speed auto tranny, 17 inch nice wheels and Mich. tires, tow package, expensive radio package bed liner and of coarse the Hemi with two spark plugs per cylinder, 345hp and 300lbs of torque. Price...$37,000. I said just looking and started to leave. He said don't you want to try it? I said I didn't want to waste his time because it was more than I wanted to spend and I wasn't all that interested in leather for $1700 more. He said let me get the keys and we will try it and I'll have some one look at yours and we can work out a price. I figured what the hell I'll get to see how the Hemi is and just blow the guy off. I won't try to describe the difference in the hemi to you vs. the old 5.9. Take it for a ride for yourself and get ready to sit back in the seat.

Damn I ramble....Bottom line...Get back and he says come in. He says he was getting us coffee and checking to see what they said about my 2002. I'm thinking here we go. Guy comes back and starts writing some figures on a paper as we are sipping coffee and then he gives me the paper and said look it over. The price of $37,000 had dropped to $27,500. Paper says they would give me $18,000 for the 2002. Sooo with my old truck and a little over $11,000 with taxes, registration and whatever he said what do you think? I handed him my credit card and said take 2 grand to hold it and when can I pick it up. He said today is Sunday so probably by late Monday afternoon. I was back home with the new one by 5pm Monday evening.

And...the hemi is no where near as bad on gas as the 5.9.
