this is very interesting. I am glad this happened. we were one of the trial sites for the Merck drug ertepenam years ago, and this new drug would make at least 4 in the carbepenam class for treatment of gram neg infections. though as a class, the carbepenams can have similar resistance patterns, ertepenam and now perhaps doripenam may have less resistance compared to imepenam and the other one I am blanking on.....

Bugs are smarter than us, so the more drugs out there, the better chance to reduce resistance....
