They were selling a less competitive product then. Their engineers have given them a perfect opportunity to really clean up with Core 2 but it's been squandered. I suppose if the true aim was to make AMD have large losses then it's a success but if AMD doesn't die then Intel shareholders won't really benefit from these losses.

I don't and have never believed the company leadership should be congratulated for this particular pricing/capacity/segment route it has taken because it's clearly not the most profitable one to take and has taken value out of the industry as a whole and been given to consumers for nothing. From now on though AMD will also be able to compete in quad markets across the board which will put more pressure on Intel's asps already artificially lowered by Intel in the first place. Also these legal seas have barely gotten up a steam yet, Intel could be hit with multi-billion fines from different sources in the next couple of years. You should look at the big picture and not concentrate on quarterly reports in isolation. Anyone could have made a profit with Core 2 and sole selling of quad-cores, it really is no big feat and you should demand and expect better ! What Ruiz did, increasing the AMD share price by a factor of 10 with only a minority percentage of K8 processors being sold, was much more impressive.
