drift, bigd, others .............................................

as you may or may not know, i just spent a week in Jamaica (my 6th time) and the SCD rate there is pretty high compared to the US, i was talking to some of the locals about it, sickle cell disease and the majority of people i spoke to told me that they smoke grass to deal with the symtoms (even kids) however i met one guy who was part of the ICA-17043 Phase III Clinical Trial that was just recently terminated (June 2007) ..... he told me that the drug had a lot of nasty side effects similar to hydroxyurea (which the majority of Jamaicans refuse to take because of the toxicity) ..... here's the cool part, almost everyone i spoke to about SCD has heard of Niprisan/Nicosan or 'the African herb treatment' ..... they are WAITING for it to be approved for sale at Govt. supsidised prices, the same guy that was in the ICA-17043 Phase III Clinical Trial told me that you can get it now, but it is expensive ($3,500 Jamaican / $50 US plus shipping for a month supply) and he said that he is positive that some people are buying it now blackmarket ..... the guy has no access to internet, a computer (said he DOESN"T WANT to know how to use one) or email, but he would try and have a friend of his contact me to further discuss ..... pretty cool i would say that Jamaicans have heard of it and are waiting for it ...... i will keep you up on any further communications ~ Fox
