CASE STUDY SMARTSCAN & KWIKSET
Challenge:Black & Decker Kwikset wanted to build on the success their PowerBolt keyless entry system and create a residential biometric lock . The lock would need to meet all of Kwikset's standards (weather proofing, durability, etc) and undergo rigorous testing before it could be brought to the consumer market, not an easy task for a biometric lock.
Solution:Kwikset enlisted Sequiam to work with their lock engineers to integrate biometrics in with the lock and a complete user management system which had to fit into their predefined electronic lock system. The new lock, known as SmartScan, represents a revolution in residential locks, residents no longer have to worry about losing a key, their own finger will enable them entry into their home.
"Developing and refining this technology for residential use combines the sophisticated engineering expertise of the Sequiam and Kwikset teams. This strategic alliance will enable Kwikset to deliver cost-effective products for consumer applications based on technologies initially developed for government, law enforcement, national security and space exploration."
