This is a bit of an interesting read..
http://stockdollars.blogspot.com/
Marani applied for & got a cusip # (per posted info) or Mower did for them, typically the # is applied for After they get a new trading symbol.
Here is the info I got from the cusip service bureau when I called them on another stock several months ago.
I just spoke with the Cusip Service Bureau regarding the # change process.
The application is submitted along with the appropriate fees, once it is approved the # is issued and becomes active immediately within a couple days or it can be express activated for 50% more in fees.
The # once active automatically changes on the stock and any new trade orders.
I asked if the # can be on hold until a name change takes place if requested, the answer was NO. He told me that if the company desired a name change and new cusip # to take effect simultaneously then they would be advised to wait to apply for the new cusip #.
He said that they cannot issue #'s and put them on hold, once they are issued they are active.
So…a couple thoughts / questions arise as to whether there is already a new ticker symbol to go with the cusip #. I don't know if there is a way to reverse look up the cusip# related to symbol…or such.
