McGuire's Innoculation Theory is essentially
(1) Threaten someone with an attack on their ideals, beliefs, etc.
(2) Make a weak attack on those ideals and beliefs
(3) Get that person to defend against that weak attack
(4) By defending against that attack, their beliefs become stronger.

It's like giving someone a Strawman arguement, so that they can effortlessly bat it aside.

I came across that on a thread totally unrelated to stocks but immediately thought of the stock threads when I saw it.
