Intel evaluating exiting the flash business?

THE HUGE HIT in market share that Intel suffered in 2003 over sales of NOR flash memory means that this year will probably decide whether the firm stays in the memory business....

...A re-organisation in its wireless division late last year meant that Intel had realised its position on flash and now that the products are in its network division, the priorities are different, said D'Elia.

Spansion (AMD) did well during 2003 and is set to do well again this year, said Van Hees. She said Spansion was "very successful" in 2003 and will do well this year as well. She said that it was likely that Spansion would enter the data storage arena at some point.
