Good Morning All!

As a reluctant long term IT guy myself, I would not think twice about the accidental posting. It must have been for the ISP's yearly theme night "Pages From Foreign Lands" and it was inadvertently placed on the Winsted site. It can happen when moving things around on the web server. For those who are not in the realm and are not sure what a web page actually is, assure yourself that it is really nothing more than a file. Really - just a file. It could be thought to be similar to a Word document. In fact, with a few minor tweaks, I could make a web site with a word document as the home page.

Understand that the web pages are stored on a server and there are many different web sites with multiple web pages housed on the server. Each site has it's own folders and sub-folders - no different than looking in your "My Documents" folder and seeing sub folders with your different categorized word documents and pictures and music files, etc. So when the geek like me goes in to change something for a web site, sometimes they have to physically go in and move the old page out and the new page in or create new folders to add the site to that particular server and add the files or whatever. This can literally involve dragging and dropping the actual .asp files (think word docs - .doc files) into and out of the folders. Or dragging folders and sub folders themselves around in Windows Explorer or on other operating system file management utilities, depending on the server.

I can testify that if you put the file in someone else's folder it has the very high likelihood of showing up on the wrong site until the mistake is corrected. Many times the home page is a file called either "home.asp" or "index.asp" and if it has the same name in the top level folder of both sites it will work in either one. When you look at a web page through your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc...) you are really just asking the server at the ISP to send you the first page with all the links on it, which is usually called home.asp, index.asp as mentioned above and is sitting in a folder on that server. So when the underpaid geek at the ISP dropped the home page of the Azerbijani Alpacca Wool Farmers Union into the Winsted folder and overwrote the page called home.asp, our site looked and behaved just like theirs. I am guessing the mistake was quickly realized and a backup copy of the proper Winsted home page was retrieved and reposted or something similar, as it was just as it was before in a few minutes. Believe me - it happens...

Well, I apologize for the long and somewhat technical post, as you may already know all that. However, I may actually pay to have that translated when the check comes in - it has such potential for humor, and who the heck knows - maybe it would be some kind of omen or sign about the things to come.

Although, I suppose it could turn out to be the Azerbijani Albatross Society...

Anyway, let's have a fun and profitable day today!
