CenterPoint Energy Inc. (NYSE:CNP - News) , the former Houston Power & Light, is in line to collect a $4 billion to $5 billion windfall, equivalent to collecting as much as $1,000 from each of its five million customers in the Houston area. That is expected to translate into a 5% rate increase later this year, an amount that would come on top of rate increases of 15% to 20% since late 2002 due to rising natural-gas costs.
