I dont believe throwing money at teachers is the answer. There are plenty of qualified ones who arent hired. Just like what makes a good doctor, there are those intangible skills that are not measured when one becomes and hires a teacher.

I realize that teachers have pressure. However I dont see them taking night call or dealing with unruly patients and demanding families, insurance companies and they dont get sued and dont carry malpractice. I think it is foolish to compare professions, they each have their own issues.

The liberal democratic way is to talk about pay scales across professions and more money will solve the problem. We may be headed for universal health care and thats another problem also. I will say that the docs i see that are salaried and at our local VA hospital work far less hours and see fewer patients (and take vacations and sick time too). Universal health care presents a supply and demand problem considering that there is a physician shortage.
