I wouldn't back off something simply because people don't agree with me.

I wouldn't really say you have been debating it either. You threw out statements about trillions spent and miracle technologies lost without a shred of evidence for each.

I might have well have said without dependence on foreign oil the earth would have been destroyed by a meteor long ago. Our evidence base would be identical.

Funny thing is I could be convinced its a bad thing. I just haven't heard a compelling argument.
