"One such person is Mohd Aslami, 54, the CEO of FiberCore, a Charlton, Mass., company that makes optical fiber. He was last in Afghanistan in 1972 but desperately wants to go back. He talks of buying thousands of acres of farmland so he can improve the irrigation systems.
"I'm definitely going to be involved," he says.
Aslami also wants to create a virtual university, using closed-circuit TV to connect students in Kabul to lectures by Afghan academics living abroad. And he is intrigued by the possibility of building the country's first fiber-based telecommunications system."
