Also suspending the operations is the same as stopping them as you will be suspending any future revenues. The problem is not the DR here, it is the other things that wasted money. If this had been done correctly from the start then there wouldn't be these issues.
As far as the selling by the company, you do realize that if they didn't produce the wreck the first year this would happen, didn't you? They had to sell off stock to pay the bills, so the way that it ends is either they raise more money through the merger, they bring in revenues from the DR, or they continue to sell off stock at under a penny until they can't.
