There is a difference in the two, for protective services, property owners are paying directly for the benefits they receive, whether provided by government or private firms, on an ad valorem basis. A socialized health system though collects taxes from people according to ability and passes benefits to people according to need. Hmm, actually, that sounds like communism. I'm not totally in antipathy to some form of government provided health care, as I have noted in my other posts, but there are always unanticipated adverse consequences to any government plan.
