I have same experience with A1c....5.6-5.7% with 6.2% tossed in once after a long virus stint, notwithstanding flu vaccine.

Use 32 u. NPH, 7 Humalog in morn; titrate 1 unit Humalog for every 30 mg/dl b.s.reading over 100, if necessary at dinner or 9 p.m.; 4 units Humulin bedtime[11 pm-3 am]. Usually wind up close to 100 mg/dl fasting b.s. in morn before breakfast. Dawn
effect is manageable that way. Weigh breakfast and dinner carbs
and protein on scale surviving from college days when diagnosed

Hypoglycemia is not much of a problem with careful meal-time
observance. I can function well @ 50+ mg/dl. Snack food is always handy. Eyes excellent but for 12 or so diopter myopia since 2nd grade. Contacts correct fine with 2.5 correction now for reading.

To prevent boredom of others here, we can take this off-line anytime. BTW, I am 5'11"+, 180-185 lbs. Dry red wine is usual with dinner.
