Klonnie.....Unless GBDX is getting their diamonds certified, they don't have to send them to the GIA for grading. All they need is a GIA graduate gemologist to do the grading. You can find many in every city in the world and certainly an abundance in NY city. I would bet that someone on staff is qualified to do this work as the grading isn't that essential on the first tier wholesale level. The stones are usually graded and or certified on the retail level as the ultimate retail customer is the only one that this matters to. Most cutters are more than qualified to represent their cut product within a very close range to the GIA. Your assumptions on these matters have been really off base. Your mother the retail jeweler knows nothing of this wholesale world and I do.....Give it a rest...
